TIPS
Ñ You can hold down the option key while clicking on the demo button, or while pressing the ╥D╙ key to select which level (1-4) you╒d like to see. Level 3 is my favorite.
Ñ If the music seems jittery or stutters, it may be causing you some trouble. Hold down the shift key while launching the game to prevent the music driver from loading. This may also help you in low-memory situations.
Ñ Ares¬ will make as large a game window as possible, considering the available memory and available screen space. If, for some reason, you want to limit the window size, give Ares¬ less memory.
WHAT IS ARES¬, ANYWAY?
It╒s a game that unlike any you╒ve seen before--part action, part tactics, with stunning graphics, sound, and visual effects.
As the leader of the only humans to escape the crusades of the Cantharan Order, the player must battle the way back to Earth and liberate his home from the Order and its allies. Eight alien races, twenty one levels, and dozens of types of ships and weapons comprise the intriguing universe of Ares¬.
Highlights of the game include such features as:
Ñ Dynamic scaling--the whole playing area can zoom from a 200% view (giant sprites!) to a tactical view of the entire battlefield
Ñ Player can control any number of ship types, and switch control from one ship to another during a level
Ñ Player can build ships and land transports at planets and space stations
Ñ Variety of mission objectives, from extensive strategic goals to escort duty--from missions of investigation to all-out destruction.
This version of the demo is not playable, and only begins to scratch the surface. But hopefully, it╒ll give you some idea of what Ares¬ is all about.
